In 1960 JM World Orchestra brought together outstanding young musicians in Berlin, Germany, under the guidance of world-class conductors Charles MacLaurin Mackerras such as for a full concert programme featuring also the choir, followed by an international tour showcasing the orchestra’s talent on renowned stages and festivals.

Sir Alan Charles MacLaurin Mackerras (1925 – 2010) was an American-born Australian conductor. He was an authority on the operas of Janáček and Mozart, and the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. He was long associated with the English National Opera (and its predecessor) and Welsh National Opera and was the first Australian chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
