1994

Brussels, Antwerp, Liège (Belgium), Berlin, Eisenhüttenstadt (Germany)

In 1994 JM World Orchestra brought together outstanding young musicians in Brussels, Antwerp and Liège in Belgium and Berlin and Eisenhüttenstadt in Germany, for a performance under the guidance of world-class conductors such as the German conductor Günther Herbig and the Belgian conductor Patrick Davin. The JM World Orchestra is a historical program of Jeunesses Musicales International and it still represents a significant part of the history of the organisation, as well as the first international youth orchestra of its kind.

Conductor

Günther Herbig (born 1931) is a German conductor who built an extensive international career in Europe, North America, and Asia. He served as music director of several major orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and later the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Herbig is particularly respected for his interpretations of the German-Austrian repertoire—especially works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, and Anton Bruckner—and for his disciplined technique and structural clarity

Patrick Davin (1962–2020) was a Belgian conductor known for his versatility and strong commitment to contemporary music. He worked with leading orchestras and opera houses in Belgium and abroad, and served in artistic leadership roles that included music direction of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie. Davin was admired for his interpretative precision, his support of modern composers, and his dynamic presence in both symphonic and operatic settings.
