In 1968 JM World Orchestra brought together outstanding young musicians in Lisbon, Portugal, for a performance under the direction of Alvaro Cassuto. The JM World Orchestra is a historical program of Jeunesses Musicales International and it still represents a significant part of the history of the organisation, as well as the first international youth orchestra of its kind.

Conductor

Álvaro Cassuto (born 1938) is a Portuguese conductor and composer with an international career in Europe and the United States, known for his commitment to both classical and contemporary repertoire. He has served in major leadership roles with orchestras, including the Orquestra Clássica do Porto, and has been particularly active in promoting Portuguese music, recording projects, and symphonic works by national composers. Cassuto is also recognized for his contributions as a teacher and advocate for orchestral development, helping strengthen Portugal’s presence in the international classical music scene.
