In 1978 JM World Orchestra brought together outstanding young musicians in London at the Royal Albert Hall and Fribourg in Switzerland for a performance under the American conductor Lawrence Foster. The JM World Orchestra is a historical program of Jeunesses Musicales International and it still represents a significant part of the history of the organisation, as well as the first international youth orchestra of its kind.
The orchestra brought together musicians from 26 different countries.

Conductor

Lawrence Foster (born 1941) is an American conductor known for his wide-ranging repertoire and strong connections to European orchestras. He has served as music director of ensembles such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. Foster is especially admired for his interpretations of late-Romantic and 20th-century composers, including George Enescu, whose music he has championed internationally. Alongside his conducting career, he has also been active in mentoring young musicians and working with major opera houses and festivals.
